Have you just lost a tooth?

Have you just had a visit from the Tooth Fairy or the Tooth Mouse?

Queen Felicity is the queen of all the fairies - but shhhh...she does not really like to be called Queen Felicity - she likes to be known as The Fairy Queen. I am only telling YOU her name because I  know that you are very special and can keep a secret! The Fairy Queen is very very very old (even older than your grandma but not nearly as wrinkly!) and she is very very beautiful.  There many different fairies that live in Fairy Land, and each one is given a special job. But there is one fairy that has a job that all the other fairies wished they could have, and her name is Florence.

Florence has the very special job of Tooth Fairy. Each evening she looks at her long long list of all the children that have lost a tooth that day and who have put the tooth under their pillow before they went to sleep. Each night the list gets longer and longer as more and more children loose their baby teeth. There are many more children in the world today than their were even yesterday, which is why Florence's list keeps growing.

Queen Felicity began to notice that Florence did not come to breakfast every day and that she was looking very tired. So she decided that Florence needed some help.  But there was one BIG problem. The rules of Fairy Land said that there can only be ONE Tooth Fairy. Queen Felicity did not know what to do, until one day when she was walking through her sweet smelling rose garden, she met Marcus.

Now Marcus was a mischievous mouse who was always getting himself into trouble. Queen Felicity only met him by chance. As she leaned forward to smell a tiny pink rose, the rose disappeared right from under her nose! She stood back in astonishment and from the corner of her eye, she saw that same tiny pink rose disappear behind the water fountain, being held by a small grey mouse.

Queen Felicity squealed in surprise and called out to her fairy guards to find the rose thief! No sooner had she turned around intending to walk back to her castle, than two fairy guards walked out from behind the fountain with a small grey mouse walking between them. The mouse was holding a tiny pink flower!

Queen Felicity summoned the mouse to her Castle. When the mouse walked into the Royal throne room, still sandwiched between the two fairy guards, Queen Felicity was sitting on her Fairy throne wearing her crown of tiny pink roses. Queen Felicity asked the fairy guards to let the mouse stand by himself and asked the mouse his name. He said he was called 'Marcus'.  Queen Felicity then asked him why he had taken one the Royal roses that were grown especially for her Fairy crown. Marcus's answer surprise Queen Felicity -  he said he wanted to make a crown for his wife Matilda as it was her birthday and he wanted to show her that she was his queen. Marcus explained that he lived in a tiny house with his wife and their 6 children and his wife worked very hard to look after them all. Marcus then put his hand behind his back and brought out 5 more roses that he was hiding.

Queen Felicity was not quite sure what to do. She could tell that Marcus had a very big heart as he must love his wife very much to want to make her a crown of royal roses. A brilliant idea popped into Queen Felicities head! She spent a few minutes thinking about how it would work and then asked Marcus an important question. "Marcus, how would you like to come to work for me and in exchange you can live here in the castle with your wife and mice children? I have a very special job that I would like you to do that no one else can help me with." Queen Felicity explained.

That is how Queen Felicity came to have TWO helpers to collect the boy's and girl's baby teeth that had fallen out! Sometimes children put their baby tooth under their pillow - but in some countries the children put their tooth in their slipper or in their shoe and put it under their bed. Felicity and Marcus work together to collect all the teeth each night which is why for some children the Tooth Fairy visits them when they are asleep, and for other children it is the Tooth Mouse that takes their tooth.

Did the Tooth Fairy leave you a 'surprise' under your pillow while you were sleeping so that she could have your tooth that had just fallen out?
